Buy-to-let mortgages

Buy-to-let, including with a smaller deposit.

For first-time landlords and experienced ones, for one property or several, including lenders who will consider a smaller deposit than the high street asks for.

Most buy-to-let mortgages are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Your property may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.

The detail

How buy-to-let lending works

A buy-to-let lender looks first at the property and the rent it can earn against the mortgage payment, and then at you. Deposits are generally larger than for a home you live in, and some lenders will consider less than others.

Your own circumstances still matter: your income, your other commitments and your credit history all shape which lenders will consider the case and on what terms.

We will tell you early what the numbers need to look like, so you can decide whether a property works before you commit to it.

FAQs

Questions people ask about this

How much deposit do I need for a buy-to-let mortgage?

Many high-street lenders want a large deposit. Some specialist lenders offer options with as little as 5 to 10%, depending on your circumstances.

Can I get a mortgage with bad credit?

Yes, often. Many specialist lenders consider applications from people with bad credit, including defaults, CCJs or missed payments. They look at your whole financial situation, not only your credit score.

How quickly can I get a mortgage approved?

In some cases we can secure a decision in as little as 24 to 72 hours, especially for urgent situations such as bridging finance or an auction purchase. A full mortgage offer takes longer, and we tell you what to expect at the start.
